Nahuatl is not a historical curiosity — well over a million people speak it in Mexico today, and it gave English chocolate, tomato, avocado and coyote. Its names have been revived strongly since the 1990s: Metztli (moon), Citlali (star), Xochitl (flower), Yaretzi. The tl is a single consonant rather than two, which is the main obstacle for English speakers and worth learning before choosing one.
